She developed a passion for singing and acting at a younger age, was consistent throughout her career, and rose to become one of the most sought-after acts.

The London-born actress became a household name following her role in the 1966 film, Blow Up, in which she controversially appeared naked in a threesome sex scene.

Her acting credits included films such as; The Prodigal Daughter, Dark Places, Wonderwall, Same Old Song, Slogan, Romance Of A Horsethief, and Seven Deaths in the Cat’s Eye, among others.

As a singer, she attained international fame and notability for her decade-long musical and romantic partnership with Serge Gainsbourg, a singer, songwriter, actor, composer, and director.

In 1968, Birkin met Serge Gainsbourg while co-starring with him in Slogan. The duo went ahead to release their debut album Jane Birkin/Serge Gainsbourg in 1969.

Under Gainsbourg’s direction, Birkin also appeared in the controversial film Je t’aime moi non plus and went on to star in Death On The Nile, and Evil Under The Sun.

She also had a prolific career as an actress. Birkin was also a model and came to be widely seen as a fashion trendsetter, inspiring the Birkin handbag, a style put into production by Hermes.

In 2021, she suffered a stroke and was forced to cancel several concerts that year. Birkin again canceled shows in March 2022 after breaking her shoulder blade.

Sadly, the celebrated English singer and actress has died. Jane Birkin passed away at 76 on Sunday, July 16, 2023.

According to reports, she was found dead at home in Paris. However, at this time of writing, the cause of her death is yet to be made public.

Birkin was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2001 for her services to acting and British-French cultural relations. She had also been awarded the French Ordre National du Mérite in 2004 and 2015
